Article by: Marilyn Wrye-Tipps What a great place to be!  This Friday July 9th, the City of Temecula kicks off it's Hot Summer Nights program.  The streets of Old Town will be filled with fun, games and music for the whole family. Baily's Courtyard will play host to Aunt Kizzy's Boyz .  Hailing from San Diego, AKB will be ripping off some down-home blues that will take you to the swamps of Mississippi.  Lead Singer "Sugaray" Rayford is revered as one of California's foremost soulful "Blues Shouters".  The Boyz recently played to a standing ovation at the Pechanga Showroom where they … [Read more...]

Sidewalk Art in Old Town Temecula

Sidewalk Art in Old Town Temecula

Last weekend the new Civic Square and surrounding areas around the new City Hall was inundated with artists of all ages and skill-levels with the goal of decorating the streets with temporary art in pastels and chalk. Participation in this event was open to all and free of charge. The City even provided free chalk to anyone that needed one. Artwork ranged from multi-day stunning efforts from professional artists, to doodles sketched by children. Drawing on the black asphalt is stunningly strenuous on the body as the temperature can be upwards of 40 degrees hotter on the pavement than the ambient air temperature. … [Read more...]

Old Town Root Beer, Floats, & Memories

Old Town Root Beer, Floats, & Memories

Old Town Root Beer Company, a little shop, tucked in on Front Street, welcomed Taste of Temecula with open arms. Upon entry to this narrow shop, visitors are swept into a time warp--from the Pop Art ads on the walls, to shelves lined with every bottled soda imaginable. And I do mean EVERY bottled soda. On this lovely spring day I brought my daughter and parents to sip root beer floats, and meet John and Cory Montgomery, the owners of this establishment. While listening to their history, I learned some things--both about how root beer is made, especially Old Town Root Beer--and the secret Montgomery … [Read more...]

Flaming Drinks at the Edge

Flaming Drinks at the Edge

Written by: Edwin Mahieu It was another fiery night at The Edge, in old town Temecula. But this Wednesday it wasn’t just the patio torches lighting things up; instead it was the flaming drinks being created by bartender Tyler Chase. First up was the Flaming Dragon, which is made from Bacardi rum and Midori liqueur that creates a greenish drink. When lit, a bluish green flame is produced that warms the drink. After the flame was put out and the drink carefully sipped, a warm melon flavor rolled over the tongue. It was hard to tell if it was the warmth of drink or the high alcohol that … [Read more...]

Jack's Nuts

Jack's Nuts

In the same place where you can find jalapeno peanut brittle and chipotle-flavored almonds, you can find some of the most delicious, buttery cashew nuts you’ve ever tasted. Located in the Penfold Building under the Gambling Cowboy, Jack's Nuts houses an array of – you guessed it – nuts of every flavor. Claudia and Steve Keaton run the store named after husband and father, Jack. Since 2005, Jack’s Nuts has brought in almonds and walnuts from California’s central valley, organically-grown pistachios from Santa Barbara, pecans, and macadamia nuts from Central America. But, most particularly, … [Read more...]

Baily's Old Town Temecula – Eleven After Dark Nightclub

Baily's Old Town Temecula – Eleven After Dark Nightclub

If you are looking for a new place to party on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night, you have got to check out the Eleven After Dark nightclub at Baily's Old Town Temecula. The music there is a mixture of Rock, Hip-Hop, Disco, Funk and House, and the dress code is the usual stylish nightclub attire -- not too fancy, not too casual. Just right. We visited on a recent Friday night. When we arrived at 10:30, the crowd was still fairly light. I guess that's why it's called Eleven After Dark, because, after 11 the crowd started rolling in and the place got packed pretty quickly. The security staff at Baily's … [Read more...]

A lovely day for a gentle Syrah

Villa Di Calabro Winery & Olive Oil Co.

Villa Di Calabro Winery & Olive Oil Co.

With all the wineries on the Rancho California and De Portola Wine trails some wine seekers have not yet discovered the tasting rooms popping up on every corner in Old Town. One of my favorites is Villa Di Calabro Winery & Olive Oil Co. They are located at the end of Main Street just before the new Temecula City Hall . The beautiful wine and olive oil tasting room resonates with Italian charm and beauty while the amazing garden in the back is perfect to take your glass of wine and enjoy a perfect Temecula day.  As the weather is heating and grilling season is about to start, my tastes are gradually … [Read more...]

There is going to be a full candy shop, popcorn stand, beer and brats on the patio, yes patio, the La Pointe's don't mess around. Also mentioned—please it was the first thing we asked—was that the wine was going to be provided by the neighboring The Collective. Catering was provided by Soro's Mediterranean Restaurant.
