By Tyler Worth, Columnist If you read last week’s Temecula Tuesday post, you may recognized the name Briar Rose. I try not to repeat the same winery too many times in my reviews but I was so taken with the Viognier I wrote about last week that I decided to visit the winery. I can say without even a shadow of a doubt that as a whole, this is the most impressive winery I have found in the Temecula Valley (and believe me, there are some pretty amazing competitors.) During my visit, I had the opportunity to try a total of eleven wines. Each and every one of them deserves a place in the spotlight, … [Read more...]
The Maxx Taxi
By, Holly Roe It’s a beautiful day in Wine Country, the sun is bright and the air is crisp and cool. We are getting ready to go on a jeep tour with Maxx Taxi where owner and operator Jeff Gardner promises it will be a rare and spectacular experience. We begin our journey leaving from Oak Mountain Winery. We continue east on De Portola Rd. heading toward Glen Oaks passing wineries, horses and huge houses. We make a right into the north gate of Glen Oaks Ranch, switch on the 4 wheel drive and start climbing. As we climb the houses get bigger and more extreme and the wildflowers start coming into view. … [Read more...]
Great Harvest Bread Co. “It’s all about the bread”
In addition to the commitment to the local community, the bread is what it’s all about. The foundation bread at Great Harvest is the Honey Whole Wheat, made with only five recognizable and easily pronounced ingredients; honey, whole wheat, water, yeast and salt. Along with Honey White and Cinnamon Burst, it is available daily. Various whole grains, nuts, spices and herbs are added to the Honey Wheat or the Honey White to make most of the other breads such as Whole Grain Goodness, Cheddar Garlic, or Whole Wheat Cinnamon Raisin Walnut Swirl. In addition to the three regulars, a variety of about seven breads … [Read more...]
Briar Rose's 3rd Anniversary BBQ
[fb-share] Briar Rose Winery, known as Temecula’s premier boutique winery, celebrated its 3rd anniversary in style this past Saturday night with a reservation-only BBQ dinner, great friends, and of course, fantastic award-winning Briar Rose wine. About 50 wine club members and guests filled Briar Rose’s back courtyard on what turned out to be a gorgeous, warm summer evening. The Disney-esque setting (their main building was built to replicate Snow White’s cottage) added to the intimacy and quaintness as devotees of owner and winemaker Les Linkogle’s vintages enjoyed his 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, … [Read more...]
Simply Sharon's is Simply Sublime
In Southern California, our food is often as frenetic, disconnected and over-processed as our lives. So I have begun a mission to find fare that is more than just calories or the sum of its ingredients, but is truly nourishing—to the body and the soul. Enter Simply Sharon’s Restaurant & Catering: “Home-style cooking with Louisiana flair.” This family-run restaurant opened its doors last November and just expanded to Jefferson and Winchester, taking over the old Tony Roma’s. I find it fitting that a national chain restaurant, for which the suburbs are so well-know, is being turned into … [Read more...]
Vino Dolce…A “Sweet” Treat from Mapes Cellars
Tonight was the night to tingle the tongue with Frizzante style wines and wonderful after-dinner wines. As Ken Mapes says, these are fortified “grappa style on steroids!” A perfect way to end the day satisfying the sweet tooth in all of us. Our hosts, Don and Michelle Campini--owners of Wine on a Dime here in Temecula--greeted each guest with a glass of Villa Jolanda Moscato, a sweet and sparkling Moscato Rose from Italy. We settled in to meet our guest winemaker/owner Ken Mapes of Mapes Cellars. Ken graciously described each of these aperitif-style wines--all from the Italia region--as we sipped … [Read more...]
Huge line at Apple Store.
The I-Phone 4 was released yesterday...and the line was huge. People started arriving at 2:00am at the Apple Store at the Promenade Mall in Temecula to stake their place in line. Apple was kind enough to provide umbrellas to keep the sun at bay. … [Read more...]
The Tilted Kilt comes to town
Taste of Temecula was invited to the VIP soft-opening of the newest Tilted Kilt, Sports Pub, located at the Promenade Mall in Temecula, at the former location of the Iron Wok. Our party was greeted warmly at the door by some of the most outgoing and friendly door staff I have ever met, so the evening started on a very positive note. The entire staff of 85 must have been working this night, and it seemed that there were as many employees at guests. I think it was one server per table, so everyone had phenomenal service throughout the evening. A word about attire Not yours, theirs. A way too cool … [Read more...]
Taste of Temecula staff acting crazy at Keyways Winery event
This was at a benefit concert with a Depeche Mode tribute band (Songs A La Mode) at Keyways Winery in Temecula on June 19th, 2010. Marilyn dances like a monkey on fire while some of the rest of the the Taste of Temecula staff look on in amusement! … [Read more...]
Anela Apothecary
I have been a girly-girl for as long as I can remember. I begged to wear dresses, and twirled in them until I was dizzy. I got into my mom’s make-up continually, no matter how many times I got in trouble for it. In middle school I put on eyliner on when I got to school and washed it off before I left for home. I love make-up, skin-care, and perfumes. And now, I love Anela Apothecary. Anela Apothecary came highly recommended to me by an equally girly Taste of Temecula staff member. My favorite esthetician became a full time actress, and I had a hard time finding a new one. Marilyn Tipps knew of my predicament … [Read more...]
