Ahhh, Winter…‘Tis the season of cozy nights by the fireplace, the gathering of good friends and family, and let’s not forget, Big Red Wine!
To welcome the season, the De Portola Wine Trail of nine boutique wineries (Keyways Vineyard, Robert Renzoni Winery, Gershon Bachus Vintners, Oak Mountain Winery, Leoness Cellars, Danza Del Sol Winery, Frangipani Winery, Cougar Vineyards and Winery, and Masia De Yabar), have announced that tickets are now on sale for their 2011 Winter Big Red Fest. This previously sold-out event will be celebrated on Sunday, December 4 from 10am-5pm along the new “Wine Row” of Temecula Wine Country (and this red wine aficionado CAN’T WAIT!)
Comparable to the Silverado Trail of Napa Valley, the De Portola Wine Trail sits against a picturesque backdrop of rolling hills and lush greenery, painting the perfect atmosphere for creating new memories. This event, which showcases Temecula’s best red wines of 2011, promises to deliver just that. Festival participants will begin their journey at the winery of their choice, then “trailblaze” to each of the other nine wineries. After living in the area for nearly seven years, I have yet to tackle every one of them, so this day will definitely be an adventure. I’m looking forward to spending time with other trailblazers, making new friends while discovering new wines!
Your passport to the 2011 Winter Big Red Fest will include the following:
- Three tastes of different varietals for each of the De Portola Wine Trail’s nine wineries (if you can handle it!)
- Appetizers at each winery crafted by a local gourmet chef to pair with the wines (my taste buds are already jonesing for Masia de Yabar’s “Chocolate Chile Gateau”!)
- A 15% non-club member discount on featured bottles of wine purchased on the day of the event

Tickets for this trailblazing event are $55 plus tax, with designated driver tickets available for $25 plus tax. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
